Due to an effective update by EPA to require all water suppliers to notify any residents that their house service (resident or city owned) may be constructed of lead, Cities in Massachusetts were required to send letters to those that were known to have lead or were of unknown material by November 15th.
If you did not receive a letter, it is likely that your service is entirely copper.
It is important to know that the Board provides treatment for the cities of Beverly and Salem, and part of that mission is to inhibit corrosion of any lead or lead solder/brass where it exists.
We utilize a phosphate treatment process and routinely monitor high risk locations to ensure that water is non-detectable or below the regulatory action limit of 15 parts per billion of lead.
The water leaving the treatment plant or within the mains in the street does not contain lead.
The Water Board did not send out these letters, and the Board is not certified to test for lead. Below is a list of labs in Massachusetts certified to test for lead.
